Artisanal textiles by handloomJess Feury is a remarkable individual who has journeyed from a childhood steeped in art and fashion (influenced by her parents), to a degree in art education (a minor in painting and printmaking). A good portion of her career was committed to working with students to relieve trauma through art (particularly families dealing with HIV, gang and gun violence) and hospice work where she worked with patients to create shrouds for their passing rituals.
Jess’ home and fashion textile art projects integrate her skills in weaving, embroidery and quilting. She works with materials and cloth that carry a sense of energy and ‘otherworldliness’. Jess' cushions are made from textural, slubby cloth with colourful woven fibres that recreate the rocky, striated landscapes of the Yuba River, Marin Headlands and Mojave desert in California.
She is currently progressing to a larger floor loom for larger scale design projects. Her work has been commissioned by Kelly Wearstler and forms a prized, new addition to the Tekstura collection.
