Wood Care

Each Artisan purchase will receive a Maintenance Kit and recommended care guidelines. The Artisan maintenance kit is a starter kit with two grades of sandpaper, a lint free cloth and a 100ml bottle of oil that has been used on your particular timber with the matching finish i.e clear natural oil, stain or white pigmented oil. The primary oil used by Artisan is WOCA which is available for purchase from Tekstura.
Tekstura recommends using a finer sandpaper for most sanding and pre-oiling. Please ensure you purchase additional 1000-1200 'wet n dry' grit sandpaper for pre-oil sanding.
Oiling your Artisan table top, chair armrests and wooden back rests, upon arrival is recommended. This will last 4-6 months until you next re-oil your furniture.
CLEANING YOUR TIMBER SURFACE
Recommended prior to oiling. Use non-abrasive, solvent free, neutral PH cleaners. (Harsh chemicals and solvents are ammonia based and are damaging to timber ie Mr Sheen and Windex or cloths you use for mixed cleaning). A cloth rinsed in warm, ph neutral detergent or WOCA Oil replenishing soap is recommended for cleaning. Dry afterwards with dry cloth.
MINIMISE WATER & CLEAN UP LIQUID SPILLS
Clean up liquid spills immediately as excessive liquid can cause swelling, warping and staining as it penetrates the surface. Sanding and re-oiling however, will help to repair this.
OILING YOUR TIMBER
Artisan Furniture use WOCA replenishing oils to protect and nourish their timbers. Oil will also repel moisture from the surface. Re-oiling your furniture, particularly dining table tops is recommended every 4-6 months. Our climatic conditions, regular furniture cleaning and use will impact the surface of timber. Regular care and oiling will make your table top look spectacular for the long term. Don’t worry, if you forget to oil your table after a year, you may need to use a slightly coarser sand paper to clean the surface for re-oiling.
Prior to oiling, the timber needs to be cleaned and dry. Please follow the manufacturer’s instructions (included with our care instructions) on how to apply the wood oil.
Use the fine grade sand paper (1200 wet and dry) to ‘buff’ the timber surface prior to oil application. Do not use a wet cloth to clean the sanded surface. Use the dusting brush on your vacuum cleaner to remove the ‘wood dust’ or a dry lint free cloth. Apply the timber oil. A small paint brush or cloth will help to distribute the oil across the timber surface. Leave the oil for 15 minutes and wipe off excess oil with the cloth.
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH YOUR TIMBER
Timber matures over time with use and climatic impacts. Sunlight can affect the colour of timber. White pigmented oiled European Oak can turn more golden over time. Customers decide either to permit the deepening of the colour or continue applying the white pigmented oil to the Oak timber.
LAPTOP & DEVICES
Some devices such as laptops can generate heat on the surface of the tabletop. Please use a thick placemat mat on your dining table to avoid heat impact to timber joins.
