WALL HANGING // Mt Nelson
Digital Media by Kim Shipton printed onto quality cotton cloth.
This image was taken near the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park, Tasmania. A community of Eucaulyptus pauciflora ‘Snow Gum’ have adapted to the wind direction in an environment which can be very cold. The species can survive temperatures which reach -23 degrees. The greatest threat to these beautiful trees is bushfire which is seeing the fastest decline in NSW especially, due to their slow regrowth period. The more frequent the fires leads to the species’ extinction. Of course, Snow Gum is a valuable habitat for birds and mammals who use their hollows for shelter. Their flower’s nectar are invaluable to birds and insects.
